Arbitration & ADR
Our practice in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution crosses industries and geographical regions. Drawing on the expertise of practitioners trained in both the common and civil-law traditions, many of whom have extensive high-level government experience, we are uniquely positioned not only to understand the legal issues at stake in a cross-border dispute, but also to take into account other factors needed for successful resolution without costly recourse to litigation.

Our practitioners have been involved in numerous domestic Canadian arbitrations in Ontario and in Quebec and before labour arbitrators. Internationally, we have participated in numerous arbitrations both as counsel and as arbitrators under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce, the American Arbitration Association, the London Court of International Arbitration, ICSID, the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague and under the NAFTA rules, as well as numerous other ad hoc arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules. Our practitioners have also participated in a number of international and domestic mediations. Under the rules of court in Ontario, all new litigation commenced in Toronto or Ottawa is subject to a requirement of mandatory mediation.

We are members of the American Arbitration Association, the Canadian Section of the ICC, the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Council on International Arbitration, the American Bar Association Section on Dispute Resolution, the ABA International Litigation Committee and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The Practical Law Company's Global Counsel Dispute Resolution Handbook cited our Alternative Dispute Resolution Group as "Highly Recommended."
